Day Two | Lent Devotional
Reading: Luke 1, Psalm 37:1-2.
It is easy to get worked up when you see wickedness prosper. This should not surprise us. Since the fall of Adam, evil has been at work in the world, opposing God and His people. The evil we face is often the work of invisible forces against us through others. Just as God brings about good in the world by working through people who follow Him, Satan brings about evil by working through people whom He has deceived. Thankfully, God is always playing the long game. He has a way to both defeat evil and bring about His good plan in our lives.
But to realize His goodness, we must decide where we will focus our attention. We must choose not to fret or get envious when we see the enemy appear to be winning. The term “fret” in verse 1 is a Hebrew word that means “to get agitated, worked up, or provoked.” When you start to feel “worked up,” check your focus. What is the voice you are listening to? What are you watching? What are you playing on the screen of your mind? Chances are your thoughts have drifted from the Lord’s promises to external things you cannot control.
Our focus is our decision. In prayer today, commit to the Lord not to fret. No matter what.
