Week 5: Talk the Talk

Scripture Reading: John 4:28–30; Philippians 2:1–4 NLT

John 4:28–30 NLT

The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?” So the people came streaming from the village to see him.

Philippians 2:1–4 NLT

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose.

Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

Devotional Reading:

When the woman at the well met Jesus, her first move wasn’t to go to seminary—it was to run and tell. She didn’t have a polished message or rehearsed testimony. She simply said, “Come see a man who told me everything I ever did.” Her transformation was her testimony.

Sometimes we overcomplicate sharing our faith. We worry we won’t say it right or answer every question. But the truth is, your story is powerful. Your compassion, your curiosity, and your ability to listen well may be more impactful than anything you say. In Philippians 2, Paul calls us to speak from a place of humility—putting others before ourselves and considering their needs.

“Talking the talk” isn’t about religious jargon—it’s about relational connection. Start by asking a question. Be genuinely interested in someone’s story. Then, when the moment comes, share how Jesus has changed yours.

Closing Prayer:

Holy Spirit, give me courage to speak and wisdom to listen. Help me share my story with gentleness and truth. Use my words to draw others to You. Amen.

Serve Week Challenge:

Practice sharing your story. Write out your 2-minute testimony and look for one opportunity this week to share it with someone who needs hope.

Reflection Questions:

  • What has Jesus done in your life that someone else needs to hear?

  • What fears hold you back from sharing your faith?

  • How can you prepare to share your story naturally and humbly?

  • Who in your life might be open to a spiritual conversation?

  • What would it look like to “talk the talk” with grace?
