Day Thirty Five | Lent Devotional

Reading: Mark 10, Psalm 37:35

“I have seen the wicked in great power spreading himself like a native green tree.”

It's a common struggle to maintain hope and avoid bitterness when we witness the apparent success of the wicked while we strive to follow the Way of Jesus faithfully. Despite our efforts to be present parents, immerse ourselves in His Word, and do what we believe to be right, we may find ourselves feeling disheartened by the lack of visible results.

In today's world, social media and cultural influences often exacerbate this struggle. We're bombarded with carefully curated images of others' lives, showcasing their apparent successes and happiness, which can lead to feelings of envy and frustration.

However, Psalm 37:3 provides a much-needed reminder to trust in the Lord and focus on doing good, rather than being consumed by comparison or despair. By dwelling in faithfulness and keeping our gaze fixed on the light of the Lord, we are promised prosperity, peace, wisdom, and abundance, even in the midst of darkness and apparent injustice.

Luke 12:25-31 further emphasizes the futility of worrying about worldly concerns. Jesus encourages us to consider the simplicity and beauty of nature, reminding us of God's provision and care for even the smallest details of creation. Instead of fixating on material needs or comparing ourselves to others, we are urged to prioritize seeking God's kingdom, trusting that He will provide everything we truly need.

In your journal today, take a moment to journal your thoughts, jotting down everything that has been occupying your mind. Afterward, categorize these thoughts into two groups: those that uplift and inspire, and those that weigh you down with negativity.

During your prayer time, open your heart to the Lord and discuss with Him how you can shift your focus towards the light. Share with Him the struggles you face in dwelling on darkness and seek His guidance on what changes you need to make in your life to prioritize the positive. Let your conversation with God be a pathway to finding clarity, peace, and renewed strength to walk in His light.
