Day Five: Perfectly Chosen

Read

And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don't know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the spirit is saying, for the spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God's own will. And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And having chosen them, he called them to come to him. And having called them, he gave them right standing with himself. And having given them right standing, he gave them his glory.

— Rom. 8:26-30 NLT

Devotional

Because we belong to a perfect Lord, we have been given access to the gift of the Holy Spirit. His presence in our lives indicates that we belong to God. We have a perfect leader in the person of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is there is help us in our weakness. When we don't know what to do or pray, he does and helps us. He makes sure that we stay in the will of the Lord.

But we have to choose to partner with him voluntarily. We must recognize that he knows far better than we do, and we must decide to let him lead our lives. After that, that is precisely the relationship the Father wants us to have with the Holy Spirit. He is our partner, our guide, our advocate, our comforter, and our friend.

By partnering with the Holy Spirit, we can know God is working everything together – every trial, struggle, victory, and praise – together for our good. The Holy Spirit is his conduit at work in our lives. He does this because he chose us and called us to be like His Son and to be with Him always. We are His chosen people and His delight. We are his holy people.

Prayer

Father, thank you for choosing me. You didn't have to, but you did. Thank you for calling me according to your purposes. I desire to serve and partner with the Holy Spirit to please you. Help me to remember daily that being chosen is my identity in Christ. Thank you for the confidence of knowing that you are working everything together for my good, in Jesus' name. Amen!
