Day Five | Lent Devotional

Reading: Luke 4, Psalm 37:3

When the Lord brought the Children of Israel into the promised land, He told them they would face enemies. He told them these enemies would always be at work to erode their peace, steal their prosperity, and corrupt their worship. His solution was for them to dwell in the land and feed on His faithful promise to sustain them. The presence of the enemy around you does not have to rob you of the blessings He has given you. We are instructed to take our attention off the enemy’s threats and feed our hearts and minds on the faithfulness He has demonstrated.

Think about how often the enemy has whispered doubts and fears into your ear to trouble you. How often have these fears never truly materialized? How often has the Lord come through to deliver, heal, forgive, restore, supply, and guide you into victory? Each of us who’s been saved for any period can reflect on our own stories and see the faithfulness of God. Feed your heart by meditating on these things.

We can also feed on His faithfulness by meditating on the stories of His faithfulness in the Bible. The scriptures are filled with testimonies of God coming through for His people when they were in trouble.

Finally, we can feed on His faithfulness by fellowshipping with others who love God. By sharing testimonies and stories of answered prayer and divine breakthroughs, our faith is lifted, and our enemy is diminished. David said, “You have prepared a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil, my cup runs over.” (Psalm 23:5).

As you pray and fast today, ask the Lord to remind you of His faithfulness on your behalf. Reflect on the specific events where God came through for you and write a short list of them in your journal. The enemy's voice will become distant, and joy will arise as you feed on memories of His faithfulness in your life. Expect something good to happen to you today because He faithfully works in your life.
