Main Teaching Overview

  1. The Personhood of the Holy Spirit
    – The Holy Spirit is not an “it.” He is a divine person with will, emotion, and intellect.
    – He can be grieved, pleased, or quenched.
    – Father, Son, and Spirit are three distinct persons of one Godhead—equal and eternal.
    – You can have a relationship with the Holy Spirit just as you do with the Father and the Son.

  2. Structure of Spiritual Gifts (1 Corinthians 12)
    – The Spirit governs spiritual gifts (charismata).
    – Jesus governs ministry gifts (apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, teachers).
    – The Father oversees all operations for the good of the whole body.
    – The Trinity works together in the expression of all gifts and ministries.

  3. Two Ways Gifts Operate
Occasional Manifestation: The Spirit moves suddenly and temporarily through a believer.
Resident Gift: A gift becomes part of a believer’s permanent spiritual equipment to steward and develop.
    – Resident gifts must be discovered, developed, and deployed.

  4. About Revivals and Moves of the Spirit
    – Revivals are not permanent states; they are seasons of refreshing (Acts 3:19).
    – The Holy Spirit moves in cycles to restore truth or power the church has neglected.
    – Every revival has both genuine moves of God and human excesses or errors.
    – The key is balance: receive the good, avoid the pitfalls, and grow in discernment.

  5. Avoiding False Practices
    – Never pay for prophecy or ministry. Charging for spiritual gifts is “the sin of Simon.”
    – Ministers must not merchandise anointing or choose where to serve based on money.
    – Christian ministry is not a business or political takeover; the Kingdom is spiritual, not worldly.
    – Be wary of “Christian nationalism” that confuses the mission of the church with earthly government.

  6. Definition: The Word of Knowledge
    – Greek: Logos of Knowledge — a fragment or portion of divine knowledge.
    – It’s a piece of information from God about something that exists or has occurred (present or past).
    – It is not psychic power, mentalism, or intuition.
    – It is not the word of wisdom (which deals with future events).
    – It is a revelation gift, not a natural talent.

  7. Purpose of the Word of Knowledge
    – Always given to benefit another person or the body of Christ.
    – Delivered to reveal truth, bring healing, or give direction.
    – Must be ministered with love, humility, and discretion.
    – Should never embarrass, manipulate, or control others.
    – If revelation does not bear witness to the Word or your spirit, do not receive it.
    – Every believer should have “a plate, a shelf, and a garbage can” —
    • Eat what’s good and true.
    • Put uncertain things on the shelf.
    • Throw away anything that’s false or unscriptural.

  8. Examples and Biblical Models
2 Kings 6: God reveals enemy plans to Elisha.
John 1: Jesus reveals Nathanael’s character.
Matthew 2: God warns Joseph of danger through dreams.
John 4: Jesus reveals the Samaritan woman’s past to draw her to salvation.
Acts 10: The Spirit tells Peter about visitors before they arrive.

  9. Real-Life Warnings and Lessons
    – Beware of counterfeit manifestations, such as the Delphic Oracles (occult imitation of prophecy).
    – Modern misuse: false prophets using social media or charging for words.
    – Accuracy alone doesn’t prove authenticity; fruit and motive matter.
    – True revelation will always honor Christ, bring love, and produce life.

  10. How the Word of Knowledge Operates
    – May come as:
Sensing – a feeling or inward impression.
Knowing – sudden understanding or awareness.
Seeing – a vision, picture, or mental image.
    – Can also come through:
    • Prayer or intercession.
    • Dreams or angelic encounters.
    • Ministry moments (laying on of hands, evangelism, counseling).
    – Must always be delivered with sensitivity and privacy.

  11. Boundaries and Accountability
    – The Holy Spirit will not expose people to humiliation.
    – Revelation meant for prayer should remain private.
    – If God shows you something, pray before speaking.
    – Disclosing information out of order can cause harm and grieve the Spirit.

Homework / Reflection

  1. Read 1 Corinthians 12:4–11 and 13:9–12.
    – Reflect on the nature of revelation gifts and how “we know in part.”

  2. Ask the Holy Spirit to make you sensitive to His voice.
    – “Lord, help me discern when You are showing me something for prayer, warning, or ministry.”

  3. Examine your motives.
    – Are you seeking gifts for power or to serve others?
    – Keep your heart humble, pure, and submitted to the Spirit.

  4. Learn to discern.
    – If something revealed doesn’t align with Scripture or peace, don’t act on it.
    – Hold words loosely; let God confirm what’s truly from Him.

  5. Pray for balance.
    – Desire spiritual gifts but pursue love first (1 Corinthians 14:1).
    – Ask for wisdom to operate in both truth and compassion.

Key Takeaways

– The Holy Spirit is a person, not a force.
– The Word of Knowledge reveals facts (present or past) for ministry purposes.
– Gifts are distributed as the Spirit wills — not for profit or performance.
– Revelation must always serve others and glorify Christ.
– False manifestations and manipulation must be rejected.
– Deliver revelation with love, privacy, and humility.
– You are responsible to act on what God reveals — but not condemned for what He withholds.

Quote of the Night
“The word of knowledge is not for you on yourself — it’s God giving you knowledge for someone else. It’s the Spirit coming through you for the benefit of another person.” — Pastor John Carter
