The Divine Dance
Message Summary:
Today in our last session of our Holy Spirit Conference, Pastor Jordan taught us that it is important to learn the divine dance with the Holy Spirit, so we can get in step and flow with Him. To do this, we must learn the steps of the dance. The first step is to KNOW HIM. To know him is to love Him, and to be loved by Him. This is only developed by spending time with Him. It isn’t just about having the best gear or the appearance of skill, just like having the right rocking climbing gear doesn’t make you an expert rock climber. You have to spend time with the wall. You have to build some calluses. You have to put in the time needed to develop the skills you need to truly know Him. That is a skill that can only be cultivated in the secret place with the Holy Spirit. In the place of intimacy, we discover the beauty of transparency and vulnerability, of being loved. God cannot heal what we do not reveal. Even as we seek to truly know Him, we can be fully known in return. It is a precious gift.
The second step is to RESPOND TO HIM. We can respond to Him moving in whatever conditions he is providing, to learn His ebbs and flows. We are in a relationship a multi-prismatic God who has many different weather systems. We can't change the weather, but we can change what we do in response to it. If you live in a climate that has one type of weather, you will only understand how to respond to that one type of scenario. But the Holy Spirit manifests in many different ways and each has its own dynamic beauty. We do the work of knowing him so we can begin to have the ability to read and respond to the ebbs and flows of His nature. In a very real way, our response should be to surf the wave of His demonstrative power.
The third and final step is to PARTNER WITH HIM. The Holy Spirit gives us the opportunity to partner with His power and to experience God's goodness to its fullest. He needs a place in your life for His power to do what it is supposed to do. You need a fireplace and a fire to experience the totality of the Holy Spirit's purpose in you and through you. A fire without a fireplace burns the house down, but a fireplace without a fire has no power. We need to be a fireplace that carries the power of fire in a way that gives warmth to others. That is truly when we are in partnership with Him. This is the divine dance with the Holy Spirit!
Scriptures:
[1 Samuel 16:7 NLT] But the LORD said to Samuel, "Don't judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn't see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart."
[Psalm 139:1-5 NLT] 1 For the choir director: A psalm of David. O LORD, you have examined my heart and know everything about me. 2 You know when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I'm far away. 3 You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. 4 You know what I am going to say even before I say it, LORD. 5 You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head.
[John 3:8 ESV] The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit."
Discussion Questions:
1. What is the “divine dance” with the Holy Spirit that Pastor Jordan referred to?
2. Why is spending time with the Holy Spirit the primary way to get to know Him?
3. How should you respond to the move and the power of the Holy Spirit?
4. Why do you need a place in your life where you regularly experience the power of the Holy Spirit?
Life Application:
This week, as you study the key scriptures, ask yourself this question: What changes do you need to make in your life so you can learn the divine dance with the Holy Spirit? Like Pastor Jordan talked about, do you have a fireplace in your life, a place where you regularly interact with the Holy Spirit? A place where you come to truly know who He is and experience intimacy with Him? This week, we challenge you to create a fireplace in your life where you experience the power of the Holy Spirit. It could be in your prayer closet. It could be on your knees in worship. It could be in the middle of a close circle of prayer warriors. It is time to practice His presence daily. It is time to learn the steps of the divine dance with the Holy Spirit.
